Greece Weather
Because of geography, different parts of Greece experience different
climates; Alpine, Mediterranean and temperate.
- Alpine climates are experienced in
Northwestern Greece (Central Greece, Epirus, Thessaly and Western Macedonia) as well as in some parts of
the central Peloponnese.
- Mediterrean climates with mild but wet Winters and hot dry Summers are experienced in
Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Eastern Peloponessus and parts of the Sterea Ellada region.
- Temperate climates are experienced in other parts of Greece including
Central and East Macedonia, and Thrace.
- The capital, Athens, lies on the boundary between the Mediterranean and temperate
climate zones, and there is actually a noticeable difference between the northern suburbs (more temperate)
and the southern and downtown areas (more Mediterranean).
